Teaching Classical Dancing of Ballet, Tap, Jazz & Modern in Ipswich for over 90 Years
The school was founded by Olive Goodwin over 90 years ago and was situated at 26 Fonnereau Road until 1986 when it moved to 8 Bolton Lane. Since January 2007 classes have been held at Copleston High School, IP4 5HD.
Linda Shipton was Principal from August 1973, having taken over from Susan King who was Principal for 4 years after Miss Goodwin retired. From April 2012 Laura Gillingham, a former student and Linda’s deputy assistant for over twenty seven years became Principal.
The school has flourished over the years and is now proud to have trained many dancers for both Professional and Amateur work alike. Professionally, past pupils are performing world wide including the Royal Ballet, English National Ballet, Film & Television work, Musicals, Cabaret and Cruise Lines. In the local sphere, the school maintains close training links with the Co-op Juniors.
The examination system of the Imperial Society of Teachers of Dancing is followed and excellent results are consistently achieved in all subjects (Classical Ballet, Modern Theatre Dance, Jazz and Tap Dance). Able students wishing to pursue a Dance career are given full preparation for entry to various full time colleges at 16 or 18 years of age.
The school participates in the IMPERIAL BALLET AWARDS and JANET CRAM AWARDS (National events) and is proud to have enjoyed many successes at these events, including overall winners.
